Canada to end 14-day quarantine for international travellers, details inside

Pilot Program in Alberta: In a major development, a new pilot program in Canada has been launched at the Calgary International Airport that can bring an end to the 14-day quarantine using rapid COVID-19 testing.

Alberta has been selected for the trial of a pilot project that will relax the quarantine requirements for international travellers entering Canada.

The federal government of Canada, along with the provincial government in Alberta, jointly announced that a new pilot program has been launched in Alberta that will reduce the 14-day quarantine requirement to around 48 hours for travelers returning home.

As per the report, the pilot program in Alberta, Canada, will launch on November 2 at the Calgary International Airport.

It has also been reported that if Alberta’s pilot program goes well, then the rest of Canada could implement this.

How Canada Rapid COVID-19 Testing will work?

  • Only Calgary International airport and Coutts land border would be part of the pilot program
  • The international travellers returning to Canada will take a Rapid Covid-19 test upon landing at the Calgary International Airport.
  • The travellers will self-isolate for 24-48 hours until the test results are complete.
  • If the COVID-19 test returns negative, the passengers would not have to quarantine but would be asked to not visit high-risk areas.
  • However, if they test positive, then they must quarantine for 14 days.
  • All returning travelers, even if they tested negative, would be monitored for 7 days.
  • On the 6th or 7th day, the travelers will undergo a second rapid COVID-19 test at a participating pharmacy.
